Raising awareness of Wilson’s disease and the challenges faced by people living with the condition is a crucial aspect of Wilson’s disease advocacy. Presenting statistics can be an effective way of drawing attention to issues and communicating the need for change. We have developed a factsheet to help you incorporate persuasive evidence into your awareness-raising.

Awareness days

It is important that the right messages are communicated at the right time to generate impactful awareness-raising. Focusing your advocacy efforts around specific awareness days could improve the impact of your advocacy and build your online presence.

It can take time to prepare materials for advocacy around awareness days. If you or your organisation have limited resources, you may benefit from careful consideration around selecting which days would deliver the most impact for your advocacy.

The following awareness days and months are relevant for Wilson’s disease and could be targeted to maximise the reach of the advocacy work you do.

  • Love Your Liver month – January (UK only)
  • Rare Liver Disease month – February
  • Rare Disease Day – 28 or 29 February (the last day of February)
  • World Liver Day – 19 April
  • World Mental Health Day – 10 October
  • International Day of Persons with Disability – 3 December
  • World Organ Donation Day – 13 August
